About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design mechanical components of cryogenic motors (stators, rotors, windings, integration) and iterate designs to optimize performance, manufacturability, and cost
- Conduct stress analysis on motor components under operational and lunar mission loads
- Lead engineering activities across winding technologies, magnet materials, lamination methods, and electrical interconnections
- Guide full product lifecycle development from requirements through manufacturing, testing, and flight qualification
- Collaborate cross-functionally from concept through prototyping to mass production
- Communicate technical concepts effectively across all senior stakeholders and functional teams
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (master's preferred)
- 8+ years of hands-on experience designing, manufacturing, and testing electrically driven motors for industrial or space applications
- Strong expertise in mechanical engineering fundamentals: materials, heat treatments, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials
- Demonstrated experience with electromagnetic simulation tools and high-volume motor component manufacturing (stamping, winding, welding)
- Deep understanding of motor design optimization: torque, power, efficiency, and thermal management
