Mechanical Engineer

• Design, analyze, fabricate, and verify the full suite of mechanical ground support equipment for large-format solar array wings—from prototype assembly through engineering build and into qualification test
• Own the complete GSE lifecycle for each item: concept trade, detailed design, procurement or in-house fabrication, assembly, acceptance test, and handoff to production with supporting documentation in Windchill
• Design and develop breakover and repositioning fixtures that allow solar wings to be rotated and handled during ground integration, ensuring load paths do not damage fragile photovoltaic assemblies or their substrates
• Translate mechanical ICD constraints from array and spacecraft bus interfaces into tooling geometry that can be operated safely in cleanroom and high-bay environments
• Design and release a broad family of wing assembly fixtures: integration stands for frame build-up during panel installation, alignment fixtures enforcing critical hole-to-hole pitch across structural members, harness routing guides, connector support brackets, and panel-level handling aids that allow technicians to maneuver individual solar panels without point-loading delicate optical surfaces or flexing laminated structures beyond tolerance
• Apply strong DFM intuition; write clear manufacturing specifications and work with in-house machinists and outside vendors to close on fabrication
• Lead design and analysis of gravity off-load systems, including dynamic load analysis, cable or counterbalance system design, and deployment simulation to accurately compensate for the distributed weight of solar array assemblies throughout the full kinematic range of motion
• Validate offload accuracy through a combination of rigid-body kinematic analysis and instrumented checkout, selecting from constant-force springs, air bearings, overhead cable systems, or hybrid approaches as the design requires
• Support miscellaneous MGSE needs as programs mature: TVAC test fixture design, transportation and shipping containers for fragile panel assemblies, vibration test interface plates, and deployment restraint fixtures for pre-launch handling
• Generate component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents with application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5; perform tolerance stackup analysis to verify interface compatibility with flight hardware
• Perform structural analysis sufficient to size load-bearing members, select appropriate fastener schemes, and verify interface compatibility with flight hardware
• Collaborate in a scrappy cross-disciplinary R&D environment with manufacturing engineers, mechanisms designers, test engineers, and technicians to ensure GSE is integrated, safe, and ready when the program needs it
• Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers on the GSE team

Mechanical Engineer III – Solar GSE

Engineer

• Develop, analyze, and mature control algorithms and control laws for complex dynamic systems
• Build and validate dynamic models and simulations of system behavior, including fluid dynamics, valves, and actuators (MATLAB/Simulink, state-space modeling)
• Perform control systems analysis (CSA): stability, robustness, sensitivity, and performance trades
• Apply model prediction techniques to anticipate system response and inform control design
• Correlate models against development and integrated test data; refine algorithms based on results
• Define control and instrumentation requirements and interface with the Design Office, avionics, software, and test teams
• Support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and integrated test activities to verify control performance
• Lead control architecture decisions, mentor junior engineers, and drive cross-program lessons learned

Controls Engineer III

Solutions Engineer

• Deploy, configure, and integrate River (Electron/TypeScript/Node.js) onto test stands and control hardware
• Bring up and validate driver-level PLC and packaged control surface communications (Modbus and other industrial protocols)
• Verify data storage, manipulation, and real-time send/receive workflows in the integrated environment
• Build, package, and manage software releases and deployments to operational systems
• Troubleshoot issues across the software/hardware boundary during integration and testing
• Partner with software, controls, avionics, and test engineers to resolve anomalies and improve integration workflows
• Develop and execute integration test procedures; capture results and lessons learned

Software Integration Engineer II

Full-stack Engineer

• Architect, develop, and maintain River, an Electron-based command and control application (TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js)
• Design and own data pipelines for storage, manipulation, and real-time send/receive of high-rate data
• Lead driver-level integration with PLC and packaged control surfaces (Modbus and other industrial protocols)
• Establish software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices across the codebase
• Drive code quality through reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD
• Partner with controls, avionics, and test engineers to define interfaces and translate requirements into robust software
• Troubleshoot complex issues across the software/hardware boundary in development and test environments
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical roadmap and cross-program lessons learned

• Integrate, deploy, and tune control algorithms and control laws onto controller electronics and avionics hardware
• Design, build, and operate Integrated Hardware-in-the-Loop (IHIL) test environments
• Bring up and troubleshoot real-time control surfaces, valves, actuators, and instrumentation
• Integrate driver-level PLC and packaged control interfaces (Modbus, etc.) with system hardware
• Lead test stations: gather requirements, design test cards, coordinate stakeholders, and generate test logs
• Resolve anomalies across the controls/avionics/software boundary during development and integrated testing
• Correlate observed hardware behavior against model predictions and feed results back to the controls team

• Develop, manage, and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for internal vehicle systems as well as external interfaces with customers and cargo payloads.
• Lead and facilitate agile sprints, including planning, execution, and retrospectives, to drive systems engineering tasks to completion.
• Serve as the Responsible Engineer (RE) for key systems, owning the technical baseline from requirements through verification and validation.
