About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Process Development & Optimization: Manage and update all related Ford Specifications/Standards. Lead PTED engineering from concept to production, creating optimized pretreatment and electrocoat systems to streamline manufacturing.
  • Technology Research: Develop novel pretreatment and anti-corrosion technologies, improving equipment design, materials, and simulation methods.
  • Performance Analysis: Analyze chemical consumption, heat requirements, flow rates, deposition rates, corrosion resistance, and adhesion performance.
  • Simulation & Design: Use CFD software for fluid dynamics, drainage, spray coverage, throw power, and coating thickness optimization.
  • Compliance & Safety: Design PTED systems compliant with safety regulations, hazard classifications, fire codes, and mechanical codes.
  • Environmental Control: Specify and select filtration and ventilation systems to maintain process quality and control the environment.
  • Project Management: Assist Lead Project Managers large-scale projects, including scheduling, cost analysis, risk mitigation, executive reporting, and commissioning of manufacturing lines.
  • Trouble Shooting: Responsible for supporting and optimizing pretreat and e-coat processes across multiple plants, serving as a technical resource for diagnosing and resolving complex, unplanned issues.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Chemical) or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience: Min of 4+ years of experience in E-Coat systems.
  • Coating Process Knowledge: Experience with functional/aesthetic coating processes, including automotive painting.
  • Methodology Skills: Proficiency in Design of Experiments (DOE) for process optimization.
  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of hazardous area classification, fire and mechanical codes, filtration, and ventilation systems.
  • CAD & Simulation: Proficient in 2D/3D modeling software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks, Inventor, ProE, AutoCAD) and CFD software (e.g., Ansys, Autodesk CFD).
  • Mechanical Design: Skills in pressure drop calculations, application flow rates, piping system design, and mechanical equipment design.
