About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Leading and growing a team of 30+ economists- onshore and offshore
  • Business development – bringing with you and/or developing a network of contacts across the public and private sector
  • External communications – lead high profile presentation to clients and other stakeholders
  • Lead cost-benefit analyses, economic appraisals, and risk-adjusted option modelling for defence and security programmes
  • Lead analytical and quantitative modelling, including economic forecasting and statistical assessments
  • Serve as a senior advisor to clients, translating complex economic concepts into digestible and compelling narratives
  • Provide leadership and oversight across project workstreams, ensuring quality assurance
  • Develop client accounts and support business development
  • Coach junior economists to build future leadership capability

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years’ experience working as an economist (in a consultancy or government department) with a focus on economic policy in government, infrastructure and/or defence
  • Experience in Green Book 5 Case model is essential, other relevant experience as Magenta book desirable
  • Proven senior leadership experience in building and lead an economic team
  • Proven experience in delivering complex public sector or defence programmes
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with experience of working within a matrix organisation
  • Experience leading the development of business cases in line with HMT Green Book principles
  • An Economics Degree (or an international equivalent) or have equivalent work experience
  • Strong analytical skills for quantitative problem-solving, paired with high attention to detail
  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate information, make informed decisions, and develop innovative solutions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Commercial/sales experience (desirable)
