About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Counsels business clients on litigation and pre-litigation matters arising from the Company’s property and casualty insurance operations, from underwriting to claims to general business matters
- Develops relationships throughout the Company so that legal advice is tailored to the unique needs of each of our specialty insurance divisions
- Manages, and collaborates with, outside counsel representing the Company in insurance policy–related and general commercial litigation
- Participates in mediations, negotiates settlements, and prepares settlement and other litigation-related agreements
- Counsels business and corporate services operations on regulatory matters associated with litigation
- Collaboratively works with other members of the Legal team to achieve optimal results for our business clients
- Partners with other shared services groups to advise business clients on litigation-related questions
- Monitors legal and regulatory issues and identifies and assesses trends and emerging risks
- Handles other matters within P&C Legal as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- A JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- At least three years of litigation experience in a law firm setting
- Prior experience in insurance is helpful but not required
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization
- Common sense, good judgment, and solution-oriented attitude toward legal issues.
