About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the design release and lifecycle execution of Vehicle Access Controls Hardware components from requirements definition through production release
- Ensure all component and system requirements are met and validated by the supplier
- Package Vehicle Access Controls Hardware components within the vehicle environment
- Author Engineering Work Orders to support prototype and production vehicle releases
- Troubleshoot component- and vehicle-level issues related to Vehicle Access Controls Hardware
- Develop and maintain timing plans to ensure program requirements and MRD milestones are achieved
- Lead Product Development Team meetings to coordinate component development, integration, and issue resolution
- Manage supplier timing, deliverables, and technical execution across multiple programs
- Represent Vehicle Access Controls Hardware in Vehicle Program Team and management reviews, as needed
- Oversee validation activities and confirm successful execution for assigned components
- Create and maintain Interface Control Design strategy and templates
- Develop and maintain commodity-specific technical documentation
- Generate and maintain Global Component Technical Specification templates
- Capture and apply lessons learned by updating best practices, GM specifications, statements of requirements, templates, and related documentation
- Drive closure of assigned issues in the Problem Resolution Tracking System
- Work cross-functionally within GM and with multiple suppliers to support design, validation, launch, and issue resolution
- Lead and support supplier resident engineers
- Support sourcing activities and supplier selection efforts
- Develop technical solutions for current, new, and major vehicle programs
- Perform complex design analysis and support engineering decisions with sound technical judgment
- Initiate and maintain documentation required for engineering authority, math, and CAD data
- Partner with engineering functions, suppliers, and plant personnel to drive cost reduction, product improvements, and successful build support.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- 2+ years of experience in a related engineering field
- Demonstrated experience in automotive embedded controller design and release
- Working knowledge of vehicle serial data communications, including CAN and LIN
- High-level understanding of automotive embedded controller verification and validation processes
- Knowledge of microcontroller architectures, memory technologies, and programming
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and with suppliers.
