About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Prepare accurate BAS work papers for review, with progression toward ATO portal lodgement as access is established
- Ensure full compliance with Australian GST, PAYG withholding, and ATO reporting obligations
- Manage and maintain Xero as the primary accounting platform, including transaction processing, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and maintain clean, audit-ready financial records
- Stay current with Australian tax regulations and compliance requirements
- Liaise with internal stakeholders on financial matters in a clear, professional manner
- Support multiple client accounts simultaneously, managing competing priorities with accuracy and professionalism across each engagement
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum 3 years of hands-on accounting experience working with Australian clients
- Proven BAS preparation experience and strong working knowledge of Australian GST and ATO compliance obligations
- Experienced with ATO portal lodgement - must have the qualifications and knowledge to lodge independently (portal access will be granted progressively)
- Solid PAYG withholding knowledge and practical application
- Strong, practical Xero proficiency
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CA, CPA, or working toward a professional accounting qualification (highly desirable)
- High degree of reliability, consistency, and self-motivation - comfortable working independently in a remote setting
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication in English
- Experience with Xero add-ons (e.g. Dext, Hubdoc, ApprovalMax) is an advantage
- Prior experience in a public practice or multi-client environment is an advantage
