About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- CAD design & modeling – designing, adapting, and developing 3D models for orthopedic aids and test components using accessible CAD tools (e.g., Fusion 360, Tinkercad, Blender).
- Parametric & generative design – developing customizable, patient-specific models based on 3D scan data or measurement inputs.
- FDM 3D printing – slicing & process optimization – preparing print files with slicing software (e.g., Cura, PrusaSlicer, OrcaSlicer), selecting appropriate print parameters and materials (PLA, PETG, TPU, bio-based filaments).
- Quality assurance & post-processing – inspecting print results for dimensional accuracy, strength, and fit.
- Printer operation & maintenance – supporting operation and upkeep of our FDM printer fleet.
- Team collaboration – close coordination with software developers, orthopaedic technicians, and product development to make designs practical and manufacturable.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Enrolled student in a relevant degree program, e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering, Medical Technology, Industrial Design, Product Design, Technical Design, or a comparable field with a focus on CAD, design, or manufacturing engineering.
- Some experience with CAD software – e.g., Fusion 360, Meshmixer, Tinkercad, or Blender (experience with SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar is also welcome).
- Basic understanding of FDM 3D printing (print parameters, materials, support structures, slicing).
- Interest in parametric or generative design.
- Careful, structured working style and technical aptitude.
- Team player, self-initiative, and eagerness to learn.
- Good German or English language skills.
